MBBS, FRACGP, DCH

Dr Bernadette Kua graduated in medicine from the University of New South Wales in 2002 and gained experience working in hospitals in Sydney and Newcastle. She worked in radiation oncology before setting her sights on general practice, completing the Fellowship in RACGP in 2011.

Bernadette enjoys all aspects of general practice especially the diversity it offers. She likes being able to develop long term relationships with her patients. She has several special interest areas including women’s health and paediatrics. She is accredited for insertion and removal of contraceptive devices- implant and IUD. She is an affiliated obstetric shared care GP with the Royal North Shore Hospital. She has completed a Diploma of Child Health. She has also completed training for medical acupuncture. She also enjoys doing skin checks and is currently further training in obesity management.

Dr Kua is offering appointments for acupuncture and sclerotherapy. Medical acupuncture can be offered for certain medical conditions such as some pain - particularly musculoskeletal, nausea or regulation of menstrual cycles. In all circumstances, it is used in conjunction with other modalities of treatment, it is never done in isolation.

Sclerotherapy is the treatment of small unwanted veins - usually small red/purple veins, predominantly in the lower limbs by injecting with a needle a chemical/sclerosant directly into the vein. It is part of treatment options for patients with venous incompetencies (varicose veins) depending on the severity of the condition.

Dr Kua can also speak Mandarin and Hokkien. She enjoys hiking and reading and music in her spare time.
